Meet The Children
This page is still under Construction
Susann was an orphan whose mother died in childbirth. Disperate and unable to care for her, her family attempted to bury her with her mother. Fortunately, her uncle rescued her and took her to an orphanage. Because the orphanage was overcrowded, Kerin was asked to keep Susann for a few months. Eventually, Kerin decided to adopt Susann. Pictured to the right is a recent picture of Susann in her school uniform.
Zainne
We don't anything about Zainne's family orgin. Some children found him in a box sitting on the railroad tracks. He was six weeks old and was in serious condition. In fact, when Kerin was asked to take him in, she was told that he wasn't expected to live. Kerin was simply being asked to care for him until he died.
But, Kerin decided not to let him die and managed eventually restrore him to health. Zainne is doing very well today. In fact, he is number one in his class at school. He is a very intelligent boy with a very dry sense of humor. Kerin has also adopted Zainne.
Pictured to the right is a recent picture of Zainne and pictured to the lower left is a picture of Susann and Zainne along with Emily (see below).
Dani
Dani's mother was totally unable to care for Dani when he was born. She already had four children and her husband refused to provide for the family (rarely coming home at all).
Kerin's Kids agreed to accept Dani into the Baby House and provide full-time care for him until such time that the mother could take him back. The mother continued to visit Dani (picture left) and eventually was able to take him home permanently. Unfortunately, the mother died soon thereafter.
Kerin's Kids took Dani back into the Baby House for another 18 months until the extended family was able to take him. Dani is now a healthy little boy and is attending school (see pictures to right).
Pregnant Teenage Girls
Periodically, Kerin's Kids provides assistance to unmarried teenage girls whose families are unwilling or unable to provide adequate care for them.
Pictured here is the first pregant teenage girl that Kerin's Kids was able to help. The baby that was born (pictured here) is now doing well and is attending Primary School.
Ryan
Kerin's Kids also provides care for children with special needs. Ryan was born deaf and blind. His family lived in a very remote village and were ill-equipped to care for him.
In desperation his mother walked 30 miles to bring him to Kerin's Kids. He was very malnurished and anemic. Although three years old, he fit into the clothes of a nine month old. Could not walk.
Kerin's Kids began physical therapy in order to strengthen his muscles and teach him to walk (see picture left of Ryan learning to walk).
Eventually, Kerin's Kids had him examined by an eye-doctor and $4000 (USD) was raised to pay for an operation that restored his sight (top left is a picture before the operation and the after picture is on the bottom left).
Ryan is now back with his family and doing quite well. Although he still deaf, he will have a much better life now that his sight is restored.
Joseph.
Joseph received baby formula for two years and has now termed out of the program. He is HIV-negative and is now in good health. He should be starting school in the very near future. Joseph remained with his mother (pictured left) as she was able to care for him (except for providing the baby formula that he needed).
The Twins (Jason & Jackson)
This is a tragic story. The father to these two twins came home drunk one night and hacked their mother to death with an axe. They were found the next morning covered with her blood.
The Village elders called Kerin's Kids who agreed to admit them into the Baby House. One of the twins (Jackson) was always quite sick and, unfortunately, fell seriously ill and died after being admitted to the hospital. Jason, on the other hand, survived and is now back with his extended family.

Emily
Emily had multiple health problems soon after birth. Critical to her health is the necessity of eating well (nutrition). Emily has been in and out of the Kerin's Kids Care Facility several times due to her family's inability to care for her properly. Nevertheless, she continues to do well and is making progress.
Ali
Ali's mother was raped and gave birth to her when she was just 14 years old. Her mother has been unable to provide for her (as well as the extended family). Consequently, Ali is likely to be one of the few children who will need long-term residence in the Kerin's Kids Care Facility.
Harriett
Harriett's mother was extremely sick and unable to care for her. Harriet stayed in the Care Facility for 18 months. Unfortunately, her mother's health has not improved; but Harriet's grandmother (right) has now managed to step in and assume responsibility for raising Harriet (which is where she now continues to reside since leaving Kerin's Kids).
Many, Many Others
These are only some of the children who have been given physical, financial, and medical assistance by Kerin's Kids Children Ministry. Some have been given risidence at Kerin's Kids Care Facility while others (most) have been assisted while remaining with their families (which is preferred). Many have been given baby formula, usually when the mother has died, been too sick to nurse the child, or has been diagnosed with HIV-AIDS. And, some have been given medical assistance (e.g. hospital care, medicine, and surgery). In addition, some abused children have been given temporary housing and/or assistance. Pictured below are some additional pictures of the many children that Kerin's Kids has assisted in Zambia.
